NOVEMBER NICHES
It has been a busy month. We finally finished corn harvest on the 20th. Never has it been this late, but come July we will be glad we had the rains. The crop was good but did not set any records. The election is over after what seems like years of campaigning, It was certainly a historic night with Obama winning the presidency. We hope and pray that there will be good leadership during the difficult times ahead. The guys have weighed and worked the fall calves. The spring calves are growing good and there have been no health issues. The fall sales reports are good.
Vance really missed going to Louisville for the annual meeting and seeing all his Angus friends. Dru went and had the fun job of judging the Miss American Angus contest. Then Dru also nominated the Nebraska candidate for the Board of Directors. We are pleased that Arlen Sawyer is now on the board. They have a good board who are going to have some big decisions to make with “curly calf”. Who knows what the next defect will be. Husker sports continue to improve. Our volleyball team is to be in a rebuilding year and only have two loses. The girls show what playing with heart can do for a team. So much fun to watch and they are ranked #3. With the hospital only having limited TV stations, we did sneak out one night to watch the NU volleyball game at a friend's house. The football team is on the rebound and is now bowl eligible. Vance finished his radiation treatments and we got home just in time for Thanksgiving. The radiologist was surprised that Vance had withstood the treatments as well as he did considering all the set backs. He stated that 45% of those who start can’t finish. Vance’s throat is so sore he can’t eat, and is on the feeding tube. This makes it hard to be out and about. We thank everyone for their concerns and prayers. With the presidential election over, I leave you this month with . . . “I know nothing grander, better exercise, better digestion, more positive proof of the past, the triumphant result of faith in humankind, than a well-contested American national election.” – Walt Whitman, American poet (1819-1892) |
