TC Diary

AUGUST ACTIVITIES

Seems like there was lots of work to get done this month. We worked the cattle and lucked out as had three really descent days — not so hot. Preg checked the cows and gave the first shots to the calves. The bull calves have really popped (I am quoting the guys). And NO the carload has not been sorted. They are still in the mix in the pasture and as usual will be weaned with all the rest. You are welcome to come pick out the carload if you’d like...one more opinion never hurts.

We enjoyed having Matt, a young man from Australia with us for a while. He is a sharp guy and will do a good job when returning home. We took him to a large ranch horse sale. I picked out a buckskin — but Vance and Matt finally agreed he was the horse TC Ranch needed to buy. Thus far we have not been disappointed in our purchase.

We are pleased to have a new young guy involved with TC Ranch. Jesse Erickson came just in time to get in on the long, hard working days of working the cattle. What a good way to break in a new man! We hope he enjoys his time with TC Ranch.

Our town, Franklin, celebrated it’s 125th Anniversary on the hottest day of the year at 108 degrees. Had a big crowd for a large parade and we put together a TC Ranch float. Had four generations showing progress – my Mother churning butter, Vance and I using pitchfork and shovel, Dru at the computer and Tavin riding his John Deere tractor. Hannah threw “jolly rancher” candy to the crowd. I did notice that sometimes she threw more and harder when it was boys in her class.

We are building a new heifer development site. Poured the concrete in the mornings when the temperature was cooler. The guys have a lot more work to do before the weaned heifers come home. Hopefully they will get it finished before weaning.

Big Red Season is under way in a building year. But the volleyball team ranked #7 beat the #2 and #4 teams. Think they found what playing as a team can do. The football team won their lst game and Vance was pleased that they did tackle better than last year — but they have a lot of work to do.

Tavin had a lot of fun with Uncle T when he can home. They enjoyed tubing at the lake and having a weiner roast along with those crispy toasted marshmallows. Also Tavin thought cleaning sweet corn was having a good time — guess he wanted some to eat.

With all the work this month and with the Huskers having lots of work to do, I leave you with . . .
