JANUARY JOURNEY

Hannah #34 playing basketball

What a way to start the New Year! Nebraska beat Clemson 26 to 21 in a New Year’s Day Bowl game. And we even managed to stay up and see the New Year come in.

Hannah is playing 6th grade basketball. In the first game all the girls were scared to dribble, shoot, and pass. But as the weeks went by they did improve and that is what is important. She likes basketball best, as she gets to run. In fact, she was usually the first one down the court.

The guys have been sorting and getting the cattle moved as we started calving the middle of the month. We calve all the cows out in the open with wind breaks for protection. Some of those cold nights we lost a few ears. Thus far we are impressed with the young bulls' calves. Took a carload of bulls to Denver. Always enjoy visiting with the people who stop by the yards. The weather was really nice in Denver.

There was no rest when home from Denver. Did fertility testing, ultrasound testing, and took pictures for the catalog. Dru wrote the footnotes for the catalog and it is always a great feeling when it is at the printer. With this we breathe a little easier.

With the nice weather, Vance decided to make the trip to Denver and was glad he did. He enjoyed seeing and visiting with Angus enthusiasts. He had a swallowing test and passed a portion of it so is back to eating real food. Thus far it is mainly soft foods, but he does not have any appetite and nothing tastes very good. Also for the first time in three and a half months, Vance laid down to sleep in a real bed, and this took a little getting used to after hospital beds and recliners.

Matt and Shelley from Australia were here as interns helping with the ranch work. They are Australian scholarship winners and are attending college in the US. We were surprised Matt would return as when he was here in July he helped us pour cement. They thought our sub-zero weather was really cold, as they are not used to such low temperatures. They were good help. We enjoyed having them at TC Ranch, and wish them the best upon returning home.

With the start of a New Year, I leave you this month with . . .
